Ad hoc game generator in testing for social play and “shakedown” rounds
· Fri 16 Oct 2026
A new ad hoc game generator is now available a for players to try at select Q4 social events.
The first public event will be on 26th October (Labour Day) from 11am-2pm at the Y Ellerslie. Players can sign up now.
In ad hoc mode, balanced games are generated on the fly based on the available pool of players.
While regular competitive rounds follow a prescribed schedule, ad hoc games are generated from the available pool of players at any given time.
Players check in when they arrive and check out any time they want to have an extended rest or if are finished for the day.
Fresh games will be generated automatically once the set number of courts are available. This can be adjusted based on attendance.
This flexibility allows organisers to handle staggered arrivals or departures with ease, as well as interruptions such as wind or rain for outdoor events.
Test events are marked as social sessions, which do not contribute towards DUPR ratings or MasterLeague points. However, players are still able to earn the same earn in-event awards, including:
- Highest percentage of potential points
- Longest winning streak of the event
Fixed partnering will be available via the Tethering feature. Allowing clusters of players, such as beginners, teams, or a group of friends, is also possible.
An option for players to “tether” themselves to another player, so that they always play together, is also available. Allowing clusters, such as a group of beginners, to be tethered is another feature in the works.
As well as being an event game generator in its own right, ad hoc mode can also be utilised as a “shakedown” round to decide on players’ starting positions for the first proper round of a league event.
The regular league round schedule has been carefully designed to provide competitive but fair combinations amongst players of similar ability, and to provide fair opportunity for all players to earn maximum points, or to come top of the table for highest percentage or longest winning streak.
Players can be swapped out manually. The app will recommend the closest player/s on the table from those not already playing.
